Food Friday: New Year’s Eve – Goodbye 2010, Hello 2011

For  New Year’s I wanted to do something special for the dessert. Using a Martha Stewart cake as inspiration, here’s what I came up with.

The M&Ms are dark chocolate, peanut butter and pretzel. The 2 and one 1 are vanilla and the 0 and the other 1 are chocolate. The frosting is a simple vanilla buttercream.

I also learned a thing or two about the distribution of colors in M&M bags: there are definitely fewer greens and fewer yellows after that and an abundance of blue and orange. Next time I do this, I’ll buy either more bags of M&Ms or buy the individual color bags — assuming I can plan ahead that far Image may be NSFW.

Also, if you’re thinking of trying this, the “regular” sized M&Ms (i.e., not peanut butter, pretzel, peanut, etc.) work the best.
